Hello world. 2020 was transformational for many people. In good and bad ways. It’s not the same for us all. There’s part of us hoping that this will be the turnaround we all needed, for climate change, for a fairer economy. But it sure it’s testing the systems and us all to the limit.

““Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next.” ― Arundhati Roy

It’s been nine months, working from home. C-19 is still around. In these times you are grateful to still have a regular job. But at the same time I’ve felt strongly that my work at Scottish Documentary Institute (SDI) was done. So if not now, then when? Sometimes your desire to change is stronger than your need for 100% safety. I knew it was time to burn the boats, close a door, complete a chapter. Of course I also wrestle with the imposter syndrome. How are you going to make it work? Sure, I’ve done my share of films and projects, but at the same time this is still scary. But I’m excited to double down on my own creativity again, after 16.9 years of looking after an organisation such as SDI, it is time to find my own voice.

There’s a lot of gratitude for all the people who I’ve worked with, especially the incredible Noémie Mendelle, the founder and brainchild behind SDI, and who has enabled me along many other filmmakers and producers to make Scotland a place for documentary again. When SDI became a charity in 2019, I knew my work was basically done, but it would take a pandemic to leave.

So there you are. I’m at once terrified and high as a kite to embark on a new chapter. I will still develop people and projects. Just a bit differently. I create to understand the world we live in and to express who I am. I look forward to a new chapter of collaborations and connections. Get in touch.
