Finlay Pretsell’s Documentary Portrait of Douglas Gordon Wins at European Work in Progress

Douglas Gordon by Douglas Gordon, the upcoming documentary by Finlay Pretsell, has already begun attracting attention even in its development stage. The film was awarded the mm filmpresse Award at the 8th edition of European Work in Progress (EWIP), held during Filmfest Hamburg.

As part of the prize, Berlin-based PR agency mm filmpresse will coordinate the film’s international festival publicity campaign, valued at €7,500.

Douglas Gordon by Douglas Gordon offers an intimate, immersive portrait of the Turner Prize-winning artist as he opens his Berlin studio to filmmaker Finlay Pretsell. Set entirely within the studio, the film blurs the boundaries between reality and performance, drawing viewers into both Gordon’s creative world and the filmmaking process itself.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of his generation, Douglas Gordon is best known for his conceptual works and video installations, including the Turner Prize-winning 24 Hour Psycho and the acclaimed Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait, which premiered at Cannes in 2006.

The documentary explores Gordon’s rise to prominence, his creation of new work, and his reflections on art, time, and aging.

To bring Douglas Gordon by Douglas Gordon to life, Finlay Pretsell once again collaborates with Sonja Henrici, with whom he made his debut theatrical feature Time Trial. The film is being produced under their joint production company, Parcel of Rogues.
