Sonja Henrici Creates develops thoughtful, provocative stories across documentary and fiction. We collaborate with filmmakers worldwide to create films that don’t just entertain, but transform how audiences see complex issues – from political power to personal trauma, environmental crisis to artistic vision.
Founded in 2021, the Edinburgh-based company works with new and established talents across multiple territories, developing distinctive projects for international markets and global audiences.
Founder / Producer
Sonja brings over 25 years of film and television experience to the company. As Co-Director of Scottish Documentary Institute (2013-2020), she pioneered innovative distribution approaches and helped bring Scottish documentary to international prominence. Her films have screened across 60+ countries, reaching audiences through festivals, cinema, broadcast and digital platforms.
Recent productions include Merkel (Netflix, Telluride premiere), The Oil Machine (BBC, IDFA premiere), and Love & Trouble (ARTE/SWR). Current projects span documentary (Birds of War, Douglas Gordon by Douglas Gordon, Cyclovia) and fiction development (Invention of Color, Shore Leave), with international co-productions across Germany, France, Denmark, Colombia and beyond.
The company’s expansion into fiction represents a strategic evolution, building on proven international partnerships whilst developing distinctive narrative projects for global markets.
Sonja is an RSA Fellow and member of AMPAS and BAFTA.

Nadja Lapčević
Junior Producer
Nadja brings a fresh Eastern European perspective to international projects. A graduate of Belgrade’s Faculty of Dramatic Arts and Kino Eyes Movie Masters, she founded Varda Pictures and recently completed her first feature, Thorntree. She works across the SHC slate.
Sam Payne
Co-Producer
Sam brings twenty years of production management expertise to award-winning films including The Reason I Jump (Sundance, Disney) and Merkel (Telluride, Netflix). As Co-Founder of Filmbloom, she specialises in technological adaptation and workflow automation for film production.
Andy Pickering
Finance Manager
Andy brings over 25 years of accounting expertise in film and TV production as Company and Production Accountant. He manages complex multi-entity structures and has extensive experience with productions funded by Disney, HBO, Netflix, plus international collaborations and UK Film Tax Credit schemes essential for co-productions.
Inyang Edoho
Communications
Inyang Edoho is a storyteller and communications professional whose work spans stage, film, and news media. She has written for stage and screen, and produced impactful documentaries and television shows. At Sonja Henrici Creates, she brings this storytelling expertise into communications, shaping how the company shares its vision and work with the world.
